The Head of the Community Explained That Ukraine Has Lost Along with Ruined Kurakhove.
This year, the final battle for Kurakhove began after militants captured the neighboring city of Vuhledar. The Russian occupation led to the destruction of all buildings in Kurakhove. The city has just over one and a half thousand local residents who refused to evacuate.
The head of the community, Roman Padun, said in an interview with 'Suspilne' that Kurakhove is the center of the Kurakhiv community, which combines industry and agriculture. There are 'Elektrostal' and Svyato-Illinsky machine-building factory in the industrial zone, as well as farms. However, due to the shutdown of metal production and the repair of mining equipment, significant capacities were lost. The 'Sims' factory was relocated to Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro, and the 'Elektrostal' factory's equipment could not be evacuated.
Special Representative of OSUV 'Khortytsia', Viktor Trehubov, stated that Ukrainian forces are holding positions in Kurakhove, although many houses have been destroyed. He emphasized that Russian troops did not fully capture the city, and Kurakhove has not been lost. However, the information about a breakthrough at the border in Sumy region was denied by the security and defense forces of Ukraine.
