The Presidency of the UN Security Council in December has passed to the USA.


The Presidency of the UN Security Council has once again passed to the United States of America. This is the fourth Time during Linda Thomas-Greenfield's term as the US representative to the UN.
Thomas-Greenfield announced that she will be finishing her job in this position next month, which she has held since 2021.
She emphasized the issues that were discussed in the Security Council during the previous US presidencies. In particular, the main issue was the consideration of Russian aggression against Ukraine, which began in February 2022 when Russia held the presidency of the Security Council.
According to her, the last presidency will be intense. In December, the priorities of the Security Council will be gender equality, food security, digital threats, and regional conflicts.
Thomas-Greenfield stated that a variety of issues will be discussed at the next meeting, from Russian aggression against Ukraine to the security crisis in Haiti, the humanitarian disaster in Sudan, the conflict in the Middle East, and the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
Additionally, an important meeting in December will discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on international peace and security, as well as food security worldwide.
Moreover, at the initiative of the USA, a meeting of the Security Council will take place on Wednesday, December 4, regarding the situation of children in Ukraine due to the Russian war.
It is noteworthy that the presidency of the UN Security Council rotates monthly among its 15 members. In October, this role was performed by Switzerland, in November by the United Kingdom, Algeria will preside in January, and China in February.
