Sleep expert reveals when it's best to drink coffee in the morning

According to The Sun: Most of us head straight to the coffee maker right after waking up.

However, according to a sleep expert, a cup of coffee right away is not the best way to get an energy boost in the morning.

Coffee works by blocking sleep receptors in your brain known as adenosine receptors, leading to improved alertness.

However, blocking these receptors just a few minutes after your alarm goes off is not very beneficial for your health.

Doctor Deborah Lee, a sleep expert at 'Get Laid Beds', explained that this is related to cortisol levels.

Cortisol is a hormone that increases alertness and attention, as well as regulates metabolism and the body's immune response.

'When you wake up, your stress hormone cortisol reaches its peak', Doctor Deborah explained.

She added that you should stop drinking coffee 'at least six hours before sleep' so that it does not interfere with your rest.

'To avoid disrupting your sleep schedule, avoid any coffee after 3:00 PM, including coffee, soda, energy drinks, or even tea', Doctor Deborah said.

'Try switching to herbal teas if you need a hot drink to warm up, or decaf coffee to trick yourself into thinking you're getting your caffeine fix.

'Your sleep schedule will thank you!'

The article emphasizes that the best time to drink coffee is not immediately after waking up, but after some time post-awakening. The expert's recommendations regarding coffee consumption help avoid sleep disruptions and ensure optimal energy levels throughout the day.
