Integration of Ukraine's defense industry into the EU defense industry is mutually beneficial - MEP.
Member of the European Parliament Andrius Kubilius noted that the experience of direct investments by European countries in military production in Ukraine can be useful for providing military assistance to Ukraine and for its integration into the European defense industry. This is beneficial for both parties.
As the newly elected European Commissioner for Defense and Space, Kubilius will be responsible for the implementation of the European Defense Industry Programme. He noted that this program envisages not only the development of the European defense industry and the creation of new tools but also the acceleration of the integration of the Ukrainian defense industry with the European one.
This will be beneficial for both parties, enabling member countries to spend money allocated for military assistance to Ukraine within Ukraine itself.
Kubilius emphasized the positive experience of Denmark, which invests in defense production at Ukrainian enterprises. He noted that this approach allows for ordering defense equipment of the same quality but at a more affordable price.
According to Kubilius, the Ukrainian defense industry has achievements in the production of drones and electronic warfare means, which should be taken into account by European partners.
Fragmentation is a reality we need to overcome. There are certain provisions in the EU agreements that allow member states to have national approaches to their own industry, but this makes the entire European Union weaker than we would all like to see it. That's why, I hope, the current geopolitical security crisis will help everyone understand that we (the EU) will be much stronger in our defense sector if we act together.
According to him, Europe's defense industry needs long-term contracts and joint defense orders to increase demand and reduce prices. This will increase production and capabilities in this sector.
