Iran promises to block the Zangezur corridor: why this threatens the region.
Iran has opposed the creation of the Zangezur corridor between Armenia and Azerbaijan, supported by the United States. The advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Akbar Velayati, stated that this project poses a threat to regional security and could become 'a graveyard for Trump’s mercenaries'. Tehran promised to block the corridor 'with or without Russia' and condemned attempts to disarm allied forces in the Middle East.
This was reported by Kurdistan24.
Iran called the Zangezur corridor a political conspiracy
Ali Akbar Velayati stated that Tehran would block the US-backed Caucasian corridor with or without Russia, and that this passage would become 'a cemetery for Trump’s mercenaries'. He also promised to resist the disarmament of 'Hezbollah' in Lebanon and 'Hashd al-Shaabi' in Iraq.
Ali Akbar Velayati elaborated on his position regarding the creation of the corridor, calling it 'a naive assertion'. He believes that this project could seriously change the geopolitical landscape of the region and lead to the division of Armenia.
Additionally, Velayati emphasized the resistance of the Armenian people against this project and stated that Iran is ready to act decisively to protect regional security. The advisor to the Supreme Leader also noted that the agreement regarding the Zangezur corridor threatens Iran's communication routes.
Ukraine and Israel agreed to initiate a separate security dialogue aimed at countering the Iranian threat. This was agreed upon during a meeting between Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in Kyiv on Wednesday, July 22.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the danger posed by Iran and the possibility of this country using nuclear weapons.
Iran opposed the creation of the Zangezur corridor, considering it a threat to regional security and a political conspiracy. The advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran emphasized the readiness to act to protect the interests of the country and the region as a whole, promising to block any attempts to create the corridor, regardless of Russia's participation. Against this backdrop, Ukraine and Israel agreed on joint measures to counter the threat from Iran.
