Europe triples its defense capabilities: the largest expansion since the Cold War.
European defense enterprises are suddenly increasing their production capacities, creating new factories and infrastructure over an area of more than 7 million square meters. This is the largest expansion of the military industry in Europe since the Cold War.
Experts believe that such structural changes deeply transform the defense industry in Europe in the medium and long term. Construction at military production facilities is twice the pace of peacetime, indicating rapid growth in the industry.
'These are deep and structural changes that transform the defense industry in the medium and long term.' - said William Alberk, a senior researcher at the Asia-Pacific Forum and former NATO director for arms control.
The construction of new facilities occurs amid discussions among EU countries regarding support for defense supplies to Ukraine and the replenishment of their own arsenals, given the uncertainty surrounding U.S. commitments. Europe is moving from peaceful production to forming a strong defense base.
Ukraine is at the center of global politics due to the unstable situation in the east of the country and the unfolding aggressive actions of Russia. The increase in production capacities of European defense enterprises indicates the readiness of EU countries to strengthen their defense capabilities to ensure security in the region and beyond.
