Kyiv Establishes Energy Security Service to Bolster City's Power Resilience.
Kyiv's New Energy Security Service
According to Novyny.live: Kyiv City Council has approved the formation of a non-profit enterprise named the 'Energy Security Service,' which will be responsible for the capital's backup power supply. The decision was made during a plenary session held on February 10, with 68 deputies voting in favor of establishing the new agency. This move comes as Ukrainian cities continue to strengthen their critical infrastructure against potential disruptions.
The Energy Security Service will be created by reorganizing an existing municipal enterprise that previously operated in the water supply sector. This enterprise will form the foundation of the new structure. Notably, the creation of the service will not require any additional funding from the city budget.
Functions of the Energy Security Service
According to Petro Panteleiev, the Energy Security Service will maintain a fleet of autonomous power sources, control their operation, and deploy generators to facilities that have lost electricity. He also noted that 'we currently lack a logistical function. Generators weighing several tons present a significant challenge to move from place to place.'
The core functions of the Energy Security Service will include:
- Managing a fleet of autonomous power sources
- Maintaining an inventory of generators
- Ensuring their storage and technical readiness
This initiative will allow Kyiv to enhance its level of energy security and respond more swiftly to potential power outages. The establishment of the 'Energy Security Service' represents a crucial step in strengthening the capital's power supply infrastructure, particularly as energy independence becomes increasingly vital. The new structure will enable more effective management of autonomous power sources, which in turn will contribute to greater stability in the city's electricity supply.
