Kyiv Official Faces Charges for Failing to Declare $140,000 Apartment.
Roads Department Official in Kyiv Accused of Hiding Assets
According to Novyny.live: The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office announced on January 26 that an official from the city's roads administration has been formally charged with failing to declare a luxury apartment and a parking space. This case is part of Ukraine's ongoing anti-corruption efforts, which have intensified since the 2014 revolution.
The deputy head of operations for the Shevchenkivskyi District's Municipal Enterprise of Road Maintenance did not list the property in his asset declarations for 2021-2023. The undeclared assets include a 74.8 square meter apartment and a 15.4 square meter parking space, with a combined value of 5.5 million Ukrainian hryvnias. Investigators state the official could not provide evidence that the funds used for the purchase came from legitimate income sources.
He is suspected of knowingly submitting false information under Part 1 of Article 366-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. This incident follows a recent media report about a mayor in the Mykolaiv region who concealed assets worth over 5.3 million hryvnias.
Corruption Challenges in Ukraine's Public Sector
This case highlights persistent issues of corruption and dishonesty among Ukrainian public officials. Failure to comply with income and asset declaration requirements can have serious consequences for both the individuals involved and the integrity of the state governance system. Such legal proceedings help raise public awareness about the critical need for transparency in government finances.
