According to TSN.ua: Melting snow triggered significant flooding in Ukraine's Kirovohrad region on February 25, 2023, requiring a major emergency response. Rescue teams were dispatched 17 times to assist affected areas, with 8 calls originating from the Holovanivsk district, 5 from Kropyvnytskyi, and 4 from Novoukrainka.
In their efforts to mitigate the flood damage, emergency crews pumped water from:
- 14 residential yards
- one basement
- one open area
- the grounds of a preschool facility
It was also reported that an animal shelter housing over 200 dogs was inundated by the floodwaters.
Warnings and Safety Measures
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has issued warnings for potential flooding in Kropyvnytskyi and neighboring regions, including Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Cherkasy. Yellow and orange danger levels have been declared for these areas. The situation remains under the continuous monitoring of rescue services.
