At the UN Security Council meeting, permanent representative Serhiy Kyslytsya stated that Russia's constant attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant create serious threats to the safety of nuclear facilities.
Specifically, air strikes on energy facilities threaten the electricity supply necessary for the operation of cooling systems at nuclear power plants. As a result, issues may arise with the safe operation of reactors, which can lead to overheating.
"Russia plans attacks on Ukrainian nuclear power plants and critical substations to disconnect the plants from the power grid," emphasized Kyslytsya. "I urge all states to take a decisive stance to prevent such a scenario, as it could increase the risk of a nuclear disaster."
