China accuses the USA of hegemony but remains silent on Russia: what Beijing says about the war.
According to ТСН: China insists that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, it has remained committed to promoting peace talks and a political resolution to the crisis, which Beijing calls a full-scale invasion by Russia since 2022.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated that China's approach to resolving the 'crisis' is clear and is based on four peaceful principles. Among them is respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries.
"At the heart of China's approach to resolving this issue are four peaceful principles proposed by China's President Xi Jinping, namely: the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected, the goals and principles of the UN Charter must be adhered to, the legitimate security interests of all countries must be taken seriously, and all efforts contributing to the peaceful resolution of the crisis must be supported," Mao noted.
The diplomat did not respond to the question about the difference between the events in Venezuela and Ukraine. She also did not explain why Beijing condemned the actions of the USA in Venezuela but did not speak out against Russia's aggressive actions in Ukraine.
Interestingly, she emphasized Beijing's 'objective and fair' position and believes that its efforts to achieve peace are 'obvious' to the international community.
Furthermore, China accused the USA of 'hegemony' due to their actions in Venezuela. Beijing expressed deep shock regarding the news of a forceful action against the sovereign state and its leader Nicolas Maduro. They highlighted that the violent removal of the Venezuelan leader could lead to chaos.
Thus, China continues to position itself as a peacemaker on the international stage, emphasizing its commitment to the principles of international law while not forgetting to criticize the actions of the USA. This attitude may define the further development of events around the conflict in Ukraine and in the relations between major powers.
