Kyiv Mayor Klychko Addresses Power Outages and Heating Shelters for Residents.
Statement from the Mayor of Kyiv
According to Novyny.live: On February 7th, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko addressed the city's residents regarding a severe crisis in the energy system, which has led to emergency power outages. Klychko stated that due to another massive enemy attack, emergency blackouts are ongoing across most of the country, and severe frosts are forecast for the capital. This situation is part of Russia's ongoing campaign to target Ukraine's civilian energy infrastructure.
Currently, Kyiv residents are receiving electricity for only one-and-a-half to two hours per day. The heads of the city's district administrations have been tasked with ensuring the operation of heating shelters to support the population during the cold. In the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Desnianskyi districts, key overnight shelters have already been set up and are ready to receive people during these harsh weather conditions.
Energy Sector Developments
Klychko also noted that on the night of February 6-7, one of the units at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant was disconnected from the grid due to voltage fluctuations.
"The enemy continues to do everything to break our spirit and will, to sow despair and panic. But this will not happen! Let's hold on!" emphasized the mayor, calling on Kyivans to remain united during these difficult times.
The situation in Ukraine's energy sector remains critical, as attacks on infrastructure continue to significantly impact citizens' daily lives. With severe frosts forecast, it is crucial for local authorities to provide proper conditions to support the population, particularly through heating shelters. Klychko's call for unity underscores the importance of solidarity and mutual support as the country faces immense challenges, highlighting the need to preserve civilian morale amidst the ongoing war.
