Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for not fulfilling the promise of tough sanctions against Russia in case of continued war with Ukraine. Nauseda noted that this action undermines trust in Europe and questions the strength of the European Union.In his speech, the Lithuanian president also supported new EU sanctions against Russia, which should target companies financing the war. He called for disconnecting Russian banks from the SWIFT system and imposing sanctions on energy companies that support the Russian state budget, emphasizing the need to increase pressure on Russia.
