U.S. General Hodges: The War Will End When Putin Realizes He Cannot Win

According to ТСН: The war in Ukraine will not stop as long as dictator Vladimir Putin is convinced of his victory. It will only end when he realizes that defeat is inevitable.

This opinion was expressed by former commander of the U.S. Army in Europe, military expert Ben Hodges in a conversation with BILD.

Trump's Efforts and Their Consequences

Hodges believes that President Donald Trump's efforts to force Ukraine and Russia to find a peaceful solution are 'doomed to fail':

'Because he (Trump - Ed.) never cared about the reasons for the conflict. Not once did he hold Putin responsible for the start of the war. Instead, he exerted pressure solely on the Ukrainian side and completely accepted the Russian narrative that a Russian victory is unavoidable,' Hodges noted.

The Fallacy of the Russian Narrative

The general believes that the thesis of the Kremlin's inevitable victory is erroneous. He reminds us that Russia began the war against Ukraine back in 2014. After 11 years, Russia controls only 20 percent of our country, and its economy is facing serious problems. Therefore, Ukraine should not comply with demands from the U.S.

'Trump no longer has leverage over Ukraine, as he has stopped supplying what the U.S. previously sent - at least, not in the volumes that would have any weight,' the expert believes.

The Future of the War and Its Impact on the Region

Hodges is confident that if an agreement is reached that leads to a cessation of hostilities, but Russia retains 20 percent of Ukraine, this will only reinforce its confidence in the lack of decisive action from the West. This significantly increases risks for Moldova and the Baltic states.

In his opinion, the decision to end the war will only be made in Moscow.

'The war will continue until Putin realizes that he cannot win. [Europe must] make it very clear that it will do everything necessary to help Ukraine succeed (…) and that it will not accept a bad deal,' the general concluded.

Previously, Ben Hodges explained why he does not believe in the peace plan by Witkoff and Kushner. His thoughts emphasize the importance of decisive Western action in supporting Ukraine against the ongoing aggression from Russia. Every step in negotiations is of enormous significance for the future not only of our country but for the entire region.
