Compensation for Internally Displaced Persons: Journalist from Mariupol Highlights Injustice.
Journalist Anna Murlykina spoke about the problems faced by displaced persons from occupied territories who do not receive assistance from the state. She emphasized the injustice and difficulty of such a situation.
Our state does not provide assistance as planned. People who are in Ukrainian-controlled territory after leaving the occupied areas see the injustice. They see how some residents of Bucha or Irpin receive compensations and financial assistance for reconstruction, even for several apartments. And having lost everything - not only property but also their city - they are left with nothing. This is very psychologically difficult. Those who have not been in such a situation will not be able to understand. I myself could not fully grasp the feelings of residents of Donetsk who lost it. Now I understand. But millions of people in Ukraine still do not understand us. And this is very hard.
Anna Murlykina pointed out that the most affected people are those who have no assistance at all. She also expressed concern that after 2.5 years of occupation of Mariupol, Volnovakha, Bakhmut, and other cities, support systems have yet to be developed.
Murlykina mentioned the injustice faced by displaced persons who have lost everything. She stated that the state does not compensate them for their losses and does not help them start a new life. This harms the country’s reputation and brings suffering to people who have long been displaced and struggle to feed their children.
People's Deputy Maksym Tkachенко acknowledged that his statement about returning 150,000 internally displaced persons to occupied territories was incorrect. He noted that although some Ukrainians travel to temporarily occupied territories, there is no verified overall statistics on their numbers.
Starting in 2025, a housing rental subsidy program for displaced persons will be launched. About 2.8 million Ukrainian families will receive subsidies and benefits, and the pension fund has already transferred the corresponding amount for the new heating season.
