Heating Crisis in Kyiv

According to TSN.ua: The energy supply situation in Kyiv and the region remains critical due to the consequences of shelling and severe frosts. About 400 apartment buildings in the capital have been without heating for the fifth day. Emergency electricity outages, which have been in effect in Kyiv and the region since January 14, 2023, complicate the process of stabilizing the energy situation. Energy workers manage to partially improve the situation, but the level of heating restoration remains insufficient.

According to information, residents of Kyiv have electricity for approximately three hours a day, while they spend up to ten hours without power. In the Bucha district, emergency power outages have been canceled, but this did not improve the heating situation. On January 9, 2023, a massive attack occurred, after which heat was restored to most of the 6000 affected buildings, but 400 apartment buildings remained without heat.

Energy Supply Situation in the Capital

On the right bank of the capital, schedules of 5/5 hours are in effect, while on the left bank, the duration of outages is 3-4 hours of light and 9-10 hours without electricity. According to Vitaliy Klitschko, the energy supply and heating situation in the capital remains critical. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that Kyiv was completely unprepared for such challenges.

Yulia Svyrydenko reported that the situation with electricity cutoff schedules in Kyiv could improve on January 15, provided there are no new attacks.

Thus, the residents of the capital are waiting for better conditions, but for now, the heating crisis continues to affect their daily lives.

The critical heating situation in Kyiv highlights the vulnerability of the city's energy infrastructure, especially in the face of winter frosts and military attacks. It is essential for local and national authorities to take urgent measures to improve the state of energy supply, as prolonged heating outages can have serious consequences for the health and safety of residents. Addressing this issue will require a comprehensive approach, including:

  • Restoration of energy networks
  • Preventing new attacks
