According to The Sun: The UK isn’t short of beautiful beaches – but one historic spot boasts more than breathtaking views.

Dorchester may be proud of its beautiful beaches, but one historic location has more than just breathtaking views.

Gemma Matthews, owner of Dorset & Devon Holiday Cottages, said: 'It’s easy to miss Monmouth Beach and head straight to the busier beaches of Lyme Regis, a bit further down the coast, especially if it’s a pebbly beach.

However, holidaymakers shouldn’t judge it solely by its pebbles - this beach has so much to offer.'

Gemma added: 'If you’re interested in history and adventure, fossil hunting is a great way to spend a day at the beach.

A lot of fossils on one mile of beach come from the opposite Ware Cliffs, which date back 200 million years.

To the west of the beach is Cobb - a historic harbor wall and breakwater that protects Lyme Regis from flooding.

There is also a parking area with direct beach access and toilets.

Many accommodations are available in this area as the beach is located near Lyme Regis and famous landmarks such as Cannington Viaduct and Rousdon Cliffs.

Monmouth Beach was named after the Duke of Monmouth, who landed on the beach in 1685 in an unsuccessful attempt to overthrow his uncle, King James II.

Even fishing enthusiasts have a paradise to enjoy. 'If you’re looking for more relaxation, the beach welcomes dogs all year round, perfect for a walk with your four-legged friend while taking in the stunning views of the Jurassic Coast, especially during sunset,' Gemma concluded.

So, Monmouth Beach is a real treasure for history and adventure lovers, attracted by the fossils and beautiful natural scenery that this picturesque local beach offers.
