Trump supported sanctions against Russia: what the new bill entails.
According to ТСН: Republican Senator Lindsey Graham reported that after a constructive meeting with Donald Trump, the President of the United States supported a bipartisan bill concerning sanctions against Russia. This document has been developed over several months with the involvement of Senator Richard Blumenthal and other lawmakers.
Graham wrote about this on the social network X, noting that the initiative is extremely timely as Ukraine is taking steps towards achieving peace while the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues his aggressive policies and the killing of civilians.
Main provisions of the bill
The document provides for granting the President of the United States the power to punish countries that buy cheap Russian oil, which, according to Graham, "fuels Putin's war machine".
Furthermore, the bill will give Trump significant leverage over countries such as China, India, and Brazil to encourage them to stop purchasing Russian oil that finances the war against Ukraine.
Lindsey Graham expressed hope for substantial bipartisan support for the bill in the Senate and noted that a vote could take place as early as next week.
Graham's proposal is marked as important for American foreign policy and support for Ukraine in the context of the ongoing war. It is expected that support from both parties will help expedite the adoption of legislation aimed at increasing sanctions and pressure on countries purchasing Russian energy resources.
