Lithuania is ready to provide military personnel and resources to ensure security in Ukraine

Lithuania is ready to provide military personnel and resources to ensure security in Ukraine, but only when the appropriate conditions are created. President

Gitanas Nauseda
emphasized that peace negotiations cannot take place without Ukraine's participation and without a complete ceasefire.

After the online meeting of the 'Coalition of Activists', President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda stated that the participating countries of the initiative must be prepared to deploy their armed forces in Ukraine as soon as the appropriate security conditions appear.

'We must be ready to deploy forces to ensure security in Ukraine as soon as suitable conditions are created', Nauseda said in a message distributed by his administration.

The head of state emphasized that Lithuania is ready to contribute to joint forces by providing servicemen and opportunities for military training. According to him, Russia's war against Ukraine, which has been going on for the fourth year, significantly affects security in Europe, and therefore any efforts to stop hostilities should be welcomed, but only on conditions favorable to Ukraine and European partners.

Nauseda stressed that peace issues cannot be resolved without Ukraine's participation, so President Volodymyr Zelensky should be present at future negotiations. He also emphasized that it is unacceptable to impose demands for the surrender of Ukrainian territories as a condition for a ceasefire.

'A comprehensive ceasefire without preconditions is the most important prerequisite before any real negotiations can begin', summed up the Lithuanian president.

Let us recall that leaders of eight countries in Northern Europe and the Baltic region confirmed their unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty in a joint statement.

Earlier, we also reported that during the night of July 31, a Russian shelling destroyed a warehouse of the Lithuanian charity organization Blue/Yellow in Kyiv. Volunteers of this organization provided humanitarian support to Ukrainians affected by the war.

Lithuania is ready to provide military personnel and resources to ensure security in Ukraine, but will do so only if the appropriate conditions dictated by the situation are created. The President of Lithuania confirmed his support for Ukraine and emphasized the importance of the country's participation in peace negotiations. In addition, he called for a complete ceasefire without preconditions to start constructive dialogues.
