Lithuanian Leader's Assessment of Russia

According to UATV: Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that he sees no prospects for peace negotiations with Russia. He asserted that Moscow is not prepared for dialogue and continues to pursue its imperial ambitions. Nausėda emphasized that even if a peace treaty were signed, the underlying situation would remain unchanged.

Nausėda noted a complete absence of signals indicating any possibility for peace talks.

“I see no signals that this could happen,” he said.
The Lithuanian president also stressed that the Kremlin regime remains stable, and a potential change in leadership is unlikely to lead to a radical shift in Russia's policy.
“The regime in the Kremlin is exactly as it is now, and its change would probably not lead to radical changes in Russia's policy,” he noted.
This perspective reflects the deep-seated concerns of Baltic nations, which have firsthand experience of Soviet occupation.

Russia's Aggressive Posture

According to Nausėda, Russia's continued targeting of Ukraine's critical infrastructure is a clear sign of its aggressive policy.

“Unlike the EU, Russia seeks to expand through the use of force,” the Lithuanian president emphasized.
His remarks highlight serious apprehensions about the future trajectory of the conflict and Russia's intent to persist with military action.

President Nausėda's comments underscore the alarm felt by Baltic and other European states regarding Russia's aggressive stance. They reinforce the view that a revival of the peace process in Ukraine is highly improbable without a fundamental change in Kremlin policy. This analysis points to the ongoing necessity for international support for Ukraine and a readiness to defend the sovereignty of nations threatened by Russia.
