Lviv Judge Charged with Bribery for Helping Evade Military Conscription.
Lviv Judge Accused of Taking Bribes and Filing False Declaration
According to Novyny.live: A judge from one of Lviv's district courts now faces corruption charges and accusations of filing a false asset declaration. Investigators allege that the judge accepted bribes in exchange for favorable rulings, including assistance in avoiding military mobilization. These bribes were reportedly taken in 2025, forming the basis for the criminal case.
Among the alleged abuses, the judge is accused of helping a detained individual evade conscription into the army. Additionally, his 2024 asset declaration contained false information, raising further concerns about his integrity and professional ethics. These findings point to a pattern of leveraging influence and submitting dishonest reports.
Severe Consequences of Corruption
If convicted, the judge faces 3 to 8 years in prison plus asset confiscation. The pretrial investigation also uncovered violations by the deputy head of the Lviv Regional Military Conscription and Social Support Center, who failed to declare assets worth nearly 8 million hryvnias. Meanwhile, a 42-year-old military conscript was sentenced for evading mobilization, highlighting the gravity of corruption within the system.
This situation has raised alarms about the integrity of judges and other officials, as such actions undermine public trust in the justice system. The investigation is ongoing, and its results could have far-reaching implications for Ukraine's entire judicial framework. It is critical that these cases are not overlooked, as they threaten not only the reputation of the courts but also the foundations of the rule of law. The public expects transparency and accountability from all participants in the legal process.
