Maduro asks Putin for military assistance: what Moscow responded.
According to inkorr.com: The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, has appealed to Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Iran for military support due to increased pressure from the Trump administration, as reported by The Washington Post based on internal government documents from the USA.
Appeal to Russia
To Russia: In an October letter to Putin, Maduro specifically requested the restoration of Russian Su-20MK2 fighters, to carry out major repairs on engines and radars, to supply missiles, and to organize funding for three years through 'Rostec'.
Appeal to China
To China: Maduro requested Xi Jinping for 'expanded military cooperation' and acceleration of the production of radar detection systems.
Appeal to Iran
To Iran: Minister Velasquez coordinated the supply of military equipment and drones necessary for Venezuela.
On Sunday, a Russian Il-76 landed in Caracas, and Moscow has already ratified a strategic treaty with Venezuela. However, Russia's interest in supporting Maduro may decrease due to the war in Ukraine. According to former US Ambassador James Story, the relocation of American military assets to the Caribbean is already a victory for Putin, as it distracts from attention on Ukraine.
Thus, the President of Venezuela has appealed to Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran for military assistance amid pressure from the USA. Although Moscow has already ratified the strategic treaty, the likelihood of providing support may diminish due to the current situation in Ukraine. The relocation of American troops to the Caribbean is perceived as a success for Putin, as it allows for the diversion of attention away from the conflict in Europe.
