Michael Douglas: Kyiv is an amazing city that continues to live despite the war

Hollywood actor and producer Michael Douglas shared in an interview with TSN his impressions of Kyiv, which, in his opinion, is an extraordinary European capital.

“I thought: if anything happens, I will be taken care of and I am in good hands. The first ladies from many countries came here. My son and I felt safe. Although I didn't know what to expect and didn't think how amazing Kyiv is,” Douglas shared his impressions.

Michael Douglas hoped to see Kyiv in ruins, but changed his mind after inspecting the city.

“Kyiv is incredible. I urge you to show people outside of Ukraine how people here continue their lives, how they stick together. For me, seeing the courage of ordinary people on the streets is very inspiring,” the actor noted.

For Michael Douglas, the visit to Kyiv was a reminder of the importance of democracy.

“I know that fatigue has set in. But you must understand that this is a wonderful reminder to America, which has cherished its democracy for 278 years and has its own problems. But how important it is! Democracy requires a lot of effort from everyone,” the producer noted.

The actor was also very upset by the destruction of the "Okhmatdyt" children's hospital.

“A targeted strike. It is hard to imagine what kind of civil society would allow bombing a children's hospital, even in times of war,” Michael Douglas expressed his emotions.

The actor noted that after the trip to Ukraine, he understood even more the level of cruelty of the enemy that this country is fighting against.

Recall that Michael Douglas and his son Dylan visited Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and First Lady Olena Zelenska.
