Major from Air Assault Brigade Logistics Detained

According to Novyny.live: A major serving in the logistics unit of an Air Assault Brigade (DShV) has been detained on suspicion of corruption schemes related to food supply contracts for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and for evading military service. An investigation revealed the officer illicitly gained $10,000 by substituting items in supply deliveries in June 2025. Furthermore, the suspect was absent from his duties for at least 38 days during 2025.

Investigation and Consequences

Authorities discovered that the major had systematically traveled abroad, visiting 10 countries, including:

  • Argentina
  • Austria
  • Switzerland
  • France
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Czech Republic
  • Turkey
  • Egypt
  • Antarctica

He was arrested on February 5, 2026, and a court ordered him to be held in custody. During searches of his residence, law enforcement seized $51,000 in U.S. currency, 2,100 euros, 201,000 Ukrainian hryvnias, and documents for high-end real estate.

Additionally, items found with the major's deputy included promissory notes for $20,000, mobile phones, laptops, and bank cards. The investigation is also examining the origin of money transfers totaling 1.8 million hryvnias. This case has sparked significant public concern, as corruption within the military undermines trust in the nation's defense structures during a time of war.

This instance of corruption within Ukraine's military framework highlights the serious challenges the country faces in defense and governance.

The major's arrest raises questions not only about military ethics but also about the effectiveness of oversight mechanisms within the Armed Forces. It is crucial for the investigation to be conducted transparently and to ensure accountability for all involved, which could help restore public confidence in the military. This case underscores the ongoing struggle against graft, which remains a critical issue for Ukraine's security and its international partners.
