France-Russia Dialogue

According to Novyny.live: French President Emmanuel Macron has stated there is no immediate need to urgently begin a dialogue with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. According to Macron, it is crucial to first concentrate on preparing and aligning positions among European nations. This stance reflects a broader European strategy to present a united front in matters of continental security.

At an informal summit in Belgium, the date of which was not specified, Macron emphasized that dialogue is not a matter of days.

"We are preparing. I believe that first and foremost, we must now work on ourselves, on what we aim to achieve,"
noted the French President. He further clarified that the goal of any negotiations would be to ensure security guarantees for Ukraine, while also securing tangible results for Europeans.
"And what do we want? We want security guarantees for Ukraine, but we also want something for Europeans,"
Macron added.

Negotiations with Putin

In December 2025, Macron announced his intention to resume negotiations with Putin. In early February 2026, he dispatched his diplomatic advisor to Moscow to prepare the groundwork for contacts. These actions point to a gradual preparation for restarting dialogue between France and Russia, despite the current lack of urgency.

Macron's statement underscores the critical importance of achieving a unified European position before engaging in talks with Russia. This signals a commitment to a collective approach in ensuring regional security and is likely part of a wider process aimed at stabilizing the situation in Ukraine. While resuming dialogue in the future could be a significant step toward conflict resolution, the present focus remains firmly on internal preparation and aligning objectives among European partners.
