The Most Premature Baby in the World

Nesh Keen, whom parents Molly and Randall jokingly call 'Nesh Potato', has become the most premature baby to survive. The boy was born in July 2024 — 133 days earlier than expected.

Nesh was born at just 21 weeks of gestation and was immediately transferred to the medical team at the Iowa State University Health Center. Lighter than a grapefruit, he spent the first months in a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, where he made small but steady steps forward every day.

A year after his birth, the family recalls that period as the most challenging in their lives and expresses gratitude to the doctors who essentially became part of their family.

Molly says that the caregivers' involvement helped them navigate the path from complete uncertainty to the first birthday celebration.

The Most Premature Twins

Canadian fraternal twins Adiya Leilin and Adriyal Luka Nadaraja became the earliest-born twins in history. They were born on March 4, 2022, at 21 weeks and five days gestation.

At the hospital where Shakina Rajendram was admitted with premature labor, the medical staff gave the babies no chance.

The parents were informed that the infants were not eligible for resuscitation.

The next day, Shakina was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, which specializes in resuscitating 22-week-old children.

Labor began 15 minutes after transitioning to the 22nd week. Adiya was the first to be born, weighing 330 g, followed by Adriyal weighing 420 g. Together, they weighed only 750 g — the lowest weight among surviving twins.

Despite predictions indicating zero chances of survival, the twins today are active three-year-olds.

The Most Premature Triplets

On February 14, 2021, in Bristol, UK, triplets Ruby-Rose, Peyton-Jane, and Porsha-May Hopkins were born. They arrived 121 days before the due date.

Ruby-Rose was born first, after which Mikaela Hopkins underwent an emergency cesarean section. All three girls had critically low weights, ranging from 402 to 467 g. Their total weight was 1,284 g — the lowest recorded for triplets.

The infants spent several months in care. Even today, the family faces several challenges: two of the children cannot move independently and are on enteral feeding.

The Most Premature Quadruplets

Lainey, Cali, Lennon, and Cohen Bryant from Alabama became the most premature quadruplets in the world. They were born on May 31, 2024, at 23 weeks and four days of gestation — 115 days earlier than the expected date.

The delivery occurred via an emergency cesarean section, with a team of 30 specialists involved.

The smallest baby weighed 577 g, while the largest weighed 647 g.

The children were transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit, where they stayed for over six months. In June 2025, the entire family celebrated the babies' first birthday.
