Azov Medic Ryjenko Named Best Military Medic in Europe: How He Saved a Comrade.
The combat medic of the 12th Special Purpose Brigade 'Azov' of the National Guard of Ukraine, Volodymyr Ryjenko (nicknamed 'Sprite'), has been recognized as the best European medic of the year in the 'military medicine' category. He received this award for an exceptional case of saving a comrade in the winter of 2025.
The press service of 'Azov' announced this news on Telegram on Friday, August 1.
Participation of the 'Azov' Team at the Conference
Three medics from the 12th Special Purpose Brigade 'Azov' of the National Guard of Ukraine participated in the Combat Medical Care Conference 2025, the largest European conference on military medicine, held in Germany. The event brought together over 1400 experts from 44 countries, organized by the Bundeswehr.
'Olha Tahirova ('Krava') talked about the challenges of providing assistance outside the 'golden hour' and the continuous work on training personnel.' - this is a very important aspect of medical training. It is not always possible to provide assistance immediately after an injury, so it's essential to be prepared for challenging situations.
In addition, Senior Lieutenant Serhiy Rotchuk (nicknamed 'Jedi') presented innovative approaches to medical logistics on the battlefield. The organizers highly appreciated the presentation by the Ukrainian team, who shared their experiences and knowledge with representatives from other countries.
Wladimir Ryjenko, awarded the title of 'Best European Medic of the Year' in military medicine, received a symbolic sword along with the award, which is a mark of strength and courage. He expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their joint efforts during the rescue operation.
Let us recall that former captive Mariyana Chychelyuk spoke about her experience in 'Azovstal', and that the 'Azov' brigade proposed to establish a Day of Commemoration for the Defenders of Ukraine.
