US Congressman Compares Trump’s Plan for Ukraine to Appeasement of Hitler.
According to ТСН: The attempts by the administration of US President Donald Trump to force Ukraine to give up part of its territory to achieve peace with Russia evoke associations with the 'appeasement' of Hitler on the eve of World War II.
This was stated by US House of Representatives member, Republican Don Bacon, in his post on Facebook.
'Forcing Ukraine to give up more of its territory for peace with Russia is not a step in the Reagan style, but a step in the Chamberlain style. Chamberlain did the same with Czechoslovakia, negotiating with Hitler,' he wrote.
The congressman also noted that the reputation of Chamberlain, who tried to 'appease' Hitler by conceding the territories of Czechoslovakia in 1938, 'will forever remain tarnished.'
Don Bacon commented on his position in a repost of an article in Roll Call, where his thoughts regarding Ukraine are discussed in more detail.
This article discusses his statement that the US plan to force Ukraine to transfer western Donbas to Russia as part of a ceasefire agreement resembles events of 1938. This is not just a territorial proposal for a peaceful resolution, but also a question of important defensive fortifications that Ukraine has in this region.
'Just giving it to the Russians would be horrific. Who would have thought that a Republican [Donald Trump] would encourage the country that was invaded to give more land to Russia for peace? And this does not guarantee peace. A year or two later Russia could start all over again,' the congressman noted.
Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the US proposals regarding Donetsk, which effectively reflect the position of the Russian Federation, do not meet Ukraine's interests.
Donald Trump, during communication with journalists, expressed confidence that the peace agreement proposed by the United States regarding Ukraine could work.
Bacon’s comments underscore the tension between the US and Ukraine regarding peaceful initiatives to end the war with Russia. It is important that understanding the limits of compromise is critically necessary for Ukraine’s national security and territorial integrity. Debates around these proposals continue to spark lively discussions both in Ukraine and beyond.
