Macron announces plan: 6 thousand French soldiers may arrive in Ukraine

According to ТСН: French President Emmanuel Macron presented his plan to parliament to deploy six thousand French soldiers in Ukraine after the signing of a peace agreement.

The leader of the 'Unsubmissive France' deputies, Mathilde Panot, noted that France could send up to six thousand soldiers to Ukraine. At the same time, she expressed doubts about the reliability of American security guarantees.

Some opposition parties, including 'Unsubmissive France,' the Communists, and the right-wing 'National Rally,' believe that any military deployment should occur only with a UN mandate. However, representatives of the right stated that in the event of an official request from Kyiv, an international mandate might be unnecessary.

Joint efforts of the United Kingdom and France

The British newspaper Times reported that, according to military and diplomatic sources, the UK and France are ready to send up to 15 thousand soldiers to Ukraine.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated in parliament that the scale of the mission will depend on the terms of potential agreements between Ukraine and Russia.

Germany and Spain's perspective

Germany, as Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated, considers deploying its troops only at the borders of Ukraine in an EU country. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez noted:

‘If Spain has sent peacekeeping troops to many other geographical regions far from our country, how can we not send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine — a European country? We must actively participate in shaping and implementing this European security architecture and must take part — as the great European country that we are — in collective security, in European security.’

Thus, although there is currently no clear data on the size of the potential contingent, this figure may be revised if it becomes clear how the peacekeeping forces will respond to possible Russian aggression and what role the US will play, European diplomats report.

In a world where the geopolitical situation remains tense, the willingness of Western countries to support Ukraine speaks of growing solidarity and commitment to ensuring security in Europe. This initiative also highlights the importance of international efforts in deterring aggression and building stable peace in the region.
