On September 12, a monitoring mission from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited one of Ukrenergo's substations, which was listed as key in the context of ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants. This was reported by the company's press service.
"The presence of the IAEA monitoring mission at key electrical substations should serve as an additional deterrent for Russia from striking transmission system facilities. The attention of the international community is a guarantee of our support in counteracting energy terror," said NEK Ukrenergo head Oleksiy Brecht.
The company noted that the issue of power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP requires special attention:
"The stability of its external power supply is disrupted due to Russian shelling. For eight times during the occupation period, the only source of power for the Zaporizhzhia NPP has been backup diesel generators".
Let us recall that the IAEA mission previously visited the Zaporizhzhia NPP to see firsthand what is happening there after the recent fire on the cooling tower. Agency specialists carefully inspected the scene and checked how important systems of the plant, such as water pumps and fuel storage, are functioning. The cooling tower is heavily damaged and likely needs to be demolished.
