The Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin reported that the Ukrainian language began to be used restrictively. He expressed this opinion in an interview for 'UP. Life'.

Kremin noted that now Ukrainization implies strict control over the observance of the language law in all spheres of public life in Ukraine.

For example, from January 16, 2021, service in Ukrainian became mandatory - a year and a half after the language law came into effect. Changes in the cultural sphere will happen later. Changes will also be made to the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, which will provide for fines for violations of the language law. This was already planned by the law itself and our activities. I see nothing else but assertive Ukrainization, which replaces gentle Ukrainization - Kremin said.

The ombudsman noted that earlier in the cultural sphere, the article on the mandatory nature of the Ukrainian language did not fully operate. But now everything has changed: there are tools for control, monitoring, and punishment.

Previously, we could not influence specific media or the service sector due to the absence of an article on the mandatory use of the Ukrainian language in the cultural sphere. Now we have the tools and opportunities for control and punishment of each business entity - added Kremin.

The Ministry of Education and Science supported the ban on speaking Russian during school breaks. This was reported by the Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi during questions to the government.

Kyiv holds the first place in the number of complaints about violations of the language law. Only in the first half of 2024, 365 appeals were registered in the capital.
