In the Kyiv region, a man attacked neighbors over the Ukrainian language: what is the current condition of the victims.
Bucha resident beat a neighbor and her son for speaking Ukrainian
In the village of Bucha in the Kyiv region, an incident occurred where a man beat his neighbor Valentyna Buiaylo and her son due to a call to speak Ukrainian. Currently, each of the victims is in various conditions, with the woman suffering the most. This was reported by lawyer Kateryna Ukrayintseva, who represents the family’s interests.
«The woman, who speaks Ukrainian and who suffered the loss of her husband in the Russo-Ukrainian war in 2016, addressed the Russian-speaking neighbor with a request to switch to Ukrainian, as the war with Russian propaganda has been ongoing for 11 years...», - noted the lawyer.
According to the lawyer, the neighbors agreed, and the topic of language was not raised again. They met in the stairwell, greeted each other, and rode the elevator together. But a month later, the same neighbor approached the woman with a bar in his hands and beat three family members, addressing them with the words: «Don't you like the way I speak?», recalled the lawyer of the events.
Kateryna Ukrayintseva stated that a pre-trial investigation of this attack on the family is underway. According to her, law enforcement agencies have already carried out some important investigative actions.
The lawyer also noted that the condition of each family member varies, with the mother having the most severe condition.
Consequences of the attack
As a result of the neighbor's attack, Valentyna Buiaylo suffered a traumatic brain injury, concussion, and a possible stroke was reported. The minor son, who tried to protect his mother, was also injured by the bar. The child also sustained injuries.
Previously, the Ministry of Education and Science expressed support for a ban on speaking Russian during breaks in schools.
Increase in complaints about violations of the language law in Kyiv
It should be noted that Kyiv takes first place in terms of the number of complaints about violations of the language law. In the first half of 2024, 365 complaints were registered in the capital.
