According to ТСН: Starting from December 10, a digital entry and exit system EES (Entry/Exit System) has begun operating at some border crossing points on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

The State Border Guard Service reported that the system is now active at the crossing points "Diakivtsi - Rakovec", "Krasnoilsk - Vykovu de Sus", and "Diakove - Halmeu", where the collection of biometric and registration data has started.

The process involves scanning the passport, taking photographs, and collecting fingerprints from visitors from third countries, including Ukrainians. At the first crossing of the border, a digital record is created for each traveler planning to travel to the EU, and during subsequent border crossings, the biometric data is verified against this record. It is important to note that children under 12 years old will not be required to provide fingerprints.

Further implementation of the system

From March 10, 2026, all border crossing points with Romania will be connected to the EES system. The crossing point "Porubne - Siret" will start operating under the new system on January 9, 2026, while the EES system at the "Solotvyno - Sighetu Marmației" crossing point was launched on October 12.

The State Border Guard Service notes that the EES system is being implemented to simplify border control, enhance security, ensure accurate accounting of foreign nationals' stay in the EU, and combat illegal migration.

"We draw citizens' attention to the fact that the operation of the EES system does not affect the overall procedure for crossing the border. We ask to keep this information in mind when planning trips," the message states.

We remind you that earlier the State Border Guard Service refuted information about the supposed massive emigration of Ukrainians abroad. The operation of the EES system aims to improve border control and provide more convenient conditions for travelers. It is important to stay updated on the new initiatives to avoid misunderstandings during travels.
