The Ukrainian Antarctic station 'Akademik Vernadsky' celebrated the appearance of the first penguin chicks. Biologist Svyatoslav Davidenko found their nest near the laboratory where geocosmos is studied. One of the chicks is already active and has started to feed independently, while the other is still hiding under an adult penguin. Over the course of a month, the chicks will continue to stay with their parents in the nest. After that, they will change their fluffy covering for black-and-white feathers and gather in groups under the supervision of adult birds.
Ukrainian biologists are monitoring the penguins, as changes in their distribution and breeding at the South Pole indicate global warming in Antarctica.
