In Vinnytsia, a man died during detention - details from the SBI.
On July 22, a 51-year-old man died during his detention by law enforcement in the village of Pohrebyshche, Vinnytsia region. The State Bureau of Investigations has taken up the case.
The man's death in Vinnytsia during detention
The SBI reported that at around 7:00 PM on July 22 in the village of Pohrebyshche, two law enforcement officers stopped a 51-year-old man who was riding a moped without tags or a helmet. During the conversation with the police, the driver attempted to escape, but the law enforcement officers decided to detain him. However, after handcuffing the man, he lost consciousness.
'The officers tried to provide him with first aid and called an ambulance, but the man died before it arrived. Initially, heart problems could be the cause of death, but the SBI awaits official conclusions from the examinations.'
It is noted that investigations are currently ongoing, and several witnesses among local residents have been interrogated and video footage from the officers' body cameras has been seized. After assessing and studying the collected evidence, appropriate decisions will be made.
Initially, the offense is classified as exceeding the authority or official powers of a law enforcement officer with the use of special means, in the absence of signs of torture. The sanction of the article prescribes imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years.
It should be noted that recently in Kyiv region, a TCDC employee brutally beat a conscript. As a result of the inflicted injuries, the man died.
The SBI has taken up this case and is investigating all the details of the incident. It is known that the attacker is in custody.
