Former SBU Cybersecurity Chief Faces Corruption Charges as NABU Concludes Probe.
The Case Against Ilya Vityuk
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office have finalized their investigation into Ilya Vityuk, the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine's (SBU) cybersecurity department. Vityuk is suspected of illicit enrichment and submitting false information in his declarations. This case is part of a broader, ongoing crackdown on corruption within Ukraine's security and defense sectors.
Investigators allege that in December 2023, Vityuk purchased an apartment with a market value of 21.6 million hryvnias. However, the official purchase contract listed the price at only 12.8 million hryvnias. Furthermore, the legal origin of 8.8 million hryvnias used for the purchase could not be verified.
Legal Proceedings
On September 2, 2025, Vityuk was formally notified of suspicion for crimes under Article 368-5 and Part 2 of Article 366-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. In response, on September 4, 2025, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a pre-trial restraint measure, setting bail at over 9 million hryvnias.
This prosecution underscores the persistent efforts of Ukrainian law enforcement to combat corruption at high levels of government. It also highlights the increasing scrutiny on transparency and accountability for public officials, a critical focus as Ukraine pursues institutional reforms and deeper integration with European structures.
