4 Most Dangerous Gasoline Engines: Which Models to Avoid.
Practice has shown that several small gasoline engines have serious problems - from timing belt issues to cylinder head failures and oil consumption.
According to Interia, the Honda 1.0 VTEC, PSA/Stellantis 1.2 PureTech, Ford 1.0 EcoBoost, and Renault 1.2 TCe turned out to be among the 'worst' gasoline engines in their history.
Honda 1.0 VTEC (P10A2)
This engine, introduced in 2017 in the Honda Civic, had issues with a faulty pulley that damaged the timing belt. This often led to overheating and engine damage, requiring a complete replacement.
PSA/Stellantis 1.2 PureTech (EB)
The 1.2 PureTech engine had problems with the timing belt that came into contact with oil due to its design, leading to belt wear and potential engine failures. The issue was only resolved in 2023 with the release of an upgraded version of the engine.
Ford 1.0 EcoBoost
The 1.0 EcoBoost had issues with the low quality of the cylinder head, as well as problems with the fuel pump drive and cooling system, which led to engine overheating and fuel pressure drops.
Renault 1.2 TCe (H5Ht)
The Renault 1.2 TCe engine had issues with high oil consumption and timing chain tensioners, requiring expensive major repairs.
The mentioned gasoline engines from well-known car manufacturers had serious problems during their operation. Frequent breakdowns and malfunctions indicated the need for modernization and improvement of technical solutions in the design of these engines.Read also
