Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we will remember Dmytro Hanža.

On the warfront, on January 10, 2025, the employee of the Lviv National Gallery of Arts named after Borys Voznytskyi, Dmytro Hanža (callsign Papay) was killed. The warrior defended Ukraine from the very first days of the full-scale war. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the Lviv City Council.

Dmytro Hanža was born on February 10, 1979, in the city of Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. He studied at the Kramatorsk Ukrainian Gymnasium of the Kramatorsk City Council in the Donetsk region. He received a degree in 'Automation of Machine Engineering and Information Technologies' from the Donbas State Engineering Academy. He obtained a second higher education in the same institution with a specialization in 'Enterprise Economics'.

In 2014, Dmytro Hanža's family moved to Lviv. For the last six years, he worked at the Lviv National Gallery of Arts named after Borys Hryhorovych Voznytskyi as a junior research associate in the scientific and exhibition department. He loved his job very much.

Hanža was a passionate collector of compact discs and adored metal music. He often spent his free Time fishing and also actively practiced aikido.

In the early days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Hanža took up arms to defend his homeland from Russian invaders and fought as part of the first rifle company of the 219th battalion of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade of the regional command 'West' of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He carried out combat missions in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia directions.

The life of the defender was cut short on January 10, 2025. The funeral ceremony took place on January 16 at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. After the city-wide farewell ceremony at Rynok Square, Dmytro Hanža was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Dmytro Hanža is survived by his wife and mother.

We remember those who fell at the hands of Russian invaders, light candles of remembrance and bow our heads in grief during the nationwide moment of silence, honoring the bright memory of Ukrainian citizens who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: all military personnel, civilians, and children, all who died in the struggle against Russian occupiers and as a result of the attack by invading troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
