A soldier who survived 36 days with a tourniquet was saved in Kharkiv

Doctors in Kharkiv performed surgery on a soldier who survived after 36 days with a tourniquet on his wounded leg. It was impossible to evacuate the man from Vovchansk due to the activity of Russian drones.

A fighter was operated on in a Kharkiv hospital who survived after 36 days with a tourniquet on his wounded leg. Even the most experienced military surgeons do not remember such a number: 864 hours.

Deputy Chief of Medical Services of the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Northern Region, Vyacheslav Kurinnyi, stated that due to the activity of enemy drones, the fighter could not be evacuated for a month. The man held out in Vovchansk with a tourniquet on his leg, which usually is not left on for more than 2 hours.

A person survived thanks to the correct application of the tourniquet. I believe that military training played an important role. The scariest thing is an amputation that was done near the tourniquet.

A fighter from Khmelnytskyi, Oleksandr, was brought to the Kharkiv hospital in critical condition: with significant blood loss, high anemia, and poisoning.

We conducted preparatory procedures: restored blood volume and increased hemoglobin levels. When the patient arrived, his hemoglobin was very low - 69. Operations are not recommended with such hemoglobin levels. He also had hypoalbuminemia due to a prolonged period without proper nutrition. The patient said he does not remember the last meal. We stabilized his condition during anesthesia and began the operation.

Surgeon Dmytro Sytchenko, who performed the surgery on the fighter, notes that he had not seen such complications before. The limb was already in a gangrenous state with purulent complications.

This is the least that could happen to a person who survived 36 days with a tourniquet on a wounded leg. In such a condition, dehydration, anemia, hypoalbuminuria, and significant weight loss occur. It is very difficult to cope with this. After all, he had a lot of luck.

The fighter Oleksandr from Khmelnytskyi, who stepped on a mine, was brought to the Kharkiv hospital. He stated that he realized he would lose his leg on the second day after the injury, but still wished to live and return to his family.

I didn't like it. It was very hard, but I wanted to stay alive, to be with my sons. I have two sons: the older one is 12 years old, the younger one is only 2 years old. This was my main motivation.

Oleksandr is currently expected to undergo medical evacuation to the western region of Ukraine and prosthetics.

It is worth noting that earlier Volodymyr Kirsanov from Zhytomyr also survived a double mine-blast injury that severely damaged his face. He was in a coma for 19 days and lost 47 kilograms.
