A Lynx Spotted Again on the Ukrainian-Romanian Border: What We Know About the Predator.
According to ТСН: Border guards have again spotted a lynx on the high-altitude territory of the Ukrainian-Romanian border — a predator already well known from previous observations.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this on Telegram. According to the information from the border guards, the lynx was recorded using remote monitoring devices. Military personnel jokingly refer to this animal as the 'inspector' since it often appears in the patrolling zone on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
Observations of the Lynx
The inspector branch of the border service 'Bogdan' from the Mukachevo squad noted that this predator has been remembered since it was a small kitten. During patrols, border guards have repeatedly come across its tracks.
Features of the Lynx
The lynx is one of the best-adapted predators to mountainous conditions. It can cover a distance of up to 30 kilometers a day and is considered the most adapted among felines for movement in deep snow.
Safety Measures
The border guards also warn citizens about the dangers of staying in high-altitude areas during winter. According to their data, the snow cover height in certain areas reaches two meters, with severe frosts, gusty winds, and low visibility. This complicates movement even for experienced tourists and can threaten their life and health.
Additionally, rare predators have previously been recorded in the Chornobyl Reserve in Kyiv region — a lynx with a cub.
The observations of the lynx at the border underscore the importance of protecting Ukraine's natural resources. This predator, clearly adapted to mountainous conditions, has become part of the ecosystem that ensures balance in nature. Considering the threats posed by the winter elements, border guards urge citizens to be cautious when visiting such places.
