Odesa District Targeted in Nighttime Drone Attack
According to Novyny.live: A Russian drone assault on the Odesa district during the night of February 21st resulted in the destruction of multiple homes, damage to infrastructure, and left two people injured. The attack caused severe destruction in the area, with significant material damage recorded. This incident is part of a wider pattern of strikes targeting Ukraine's southern regions and port infrastructure.
At least five private houses and a four-apartment residential building were damaged. Garages and several cars on the property were also burned. A local lyceum was partially destroyed, with its second floor sustaining damage. Additionally, storage facilities belonging to an energy company were hit, complicating the operations of regional enterprises.
The attack claimed two lives; one victim was hospitalized while the other received aid on-site. More than 60 firefighters and 17 pieces of equipment were deployed to manage the aftermath, highlighting the severity of the situation and the scale of the destruction.
Accounts from Survivors
Natalia, a resident of one of the damaged houses, shared her experience:
"We were sitting in the room and heard the Shahed drones flying. Then there was an impact. I didn't even realize at first that it was our house that was hit."She added:
"I climbed out through the window and ran across the yard to another exit. Everything was burning fiercely, and there was a lot of smoke."Natalia described her feelings after the attack: 'The feeling is when a Shahed hits your house and everything is on fire. You just watch your life burn up.'
"Nothing, absolutely nothing. The car burned too. We have nothing left," she stated, underscoring the tragedy caused by the nighttime strike.
The aggressor's actions led to substantial destruction and posed a direct threat to the lives of local residents, causing concern among the population and authorities. Such incidents underscore the urgent need to ensure the safety and protection of civilians in regions affected by the ongoing war.
