Ukraine Implements New Power Outage Schedules, Exceeding 16 Hours Daily.
Ukraine Announces New Power Outage Schedules
According to Novyny.live: New schedules for power outages have been introduced across Ukraine, with some lasting over 16 hours per day. This is a direct consequence of Russia's targeted attacks on the country's energy infrastructure. YASNO CEO Serhii Kovalenko announced the changes, stating that previous maximum outage intervals are no longer relevant. Under the new conditions, with restrictions in 5 stages, blackouts can exceed 16 hours.
Kyiv is currently operating under an emergency outage regime, where residents can expect to have electricity for roughly 3 hours a day, followed by 10 hours without power. From January 19, hourly outage schedules will continue to be applied in all regions of Ukraine. These measures highlight the severe strain on the national grid following months of systematic bombardment.
State of the Energy System
Serhii Kovalenko noted that the situation within the energy system has deteriorated, and predicting any improvement in power supply is currently difficult. He emphasized the gravity of the crisis:
“Being without power for over 16 hours is horrific. This is not due to the energy workers, but because of the enemy's cynical attacks, which aim to create a humanitarian catastrophe.” — Serhii Kovalenko
Amid these challenges, Polish citizens have raised approximately 13 million hryvnias to provide generators for Kyiv, demonstrating international support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people during this difficult time. The ongoing energy crisis is a result of the escalated conflict, which has caused massive destruction to critical civilian infrastructure. The new outage scheme reflects the necessity of adapting to wartime conditions and the effort to maintain at least some level of electricity supply. Support from allies like Poland underscores the global solidarity and willingness to assist Ukraine during this critical period.
