Ukrzaliznytsia has launched new Eurotrains: where direct trains have appeared.
According to ТСН: In 2025, Ukrainians received new comfortable railway routes both within the country and abroad. In particular, direct trains appeared from Przemysl to Munich, Vienna and Budapest, and from Uzhhorod it is possible to reach a number of European cities without transfers. However, due to the security situation, some trains in Ukraine were canceled.
Train from Przemysl to Munich, Vienna and Budapest
From December 14, 2025, the international night train EN Carpatia will start operating, connecting the border town of Przemysl (Poland) with major cities in Europe — Munich, Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. The route is serviced by the Polish railway carrier PKP Intercity.
This route is very convenient for passengers from Ukraine, as it connects with the trains of Ukrzaliznytsia from Lviv and Kyiv. The departure time has been chosen so that travelers can continue their journey across Europe without long transfers.
The new train allows for a daytime trip from Ukraine and a night ride across Europe without the need for an overnight stay in Poland. Departing from Kyiv or Lviv in the morning, one can reach Vienna, Budapest or Munich by the next morning.
Route and schedule
EN Carpatia will depart from Przemysl at 17:51 and will travel via Rzeszów, Kraków and Katowice. In the Czech town of Bohumín, part of the carriages will be directed to Bratislava and Budapest. The main train will proceed via Vienna, Linz and Salzburg to Munich, arriving at 10:24 the next day. The travel time to Munich will take approximately 16.5 hours.
The return train from Munich will depart at 18:45 and arrive in Przemysl at 10:10 the next day.
Travel conditions and comfort
The train belongs to the EuroNight category and offers several accommodation options:
seating;
sleeping compartments (couchette);
luxury class compartments with sleep and hygiene kits, snacks and hot drinks. For comfortable rest, the light in the compartment is turned off from 22:00 to 06:00.
Ticket prices
The minimum ticket price is from 57 euros (approximately 2,750 UAH). For EuroNight trains, mandatory seat reservation applies.
Direct trains from Uzhhorod to Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna
From Uzhhorod, Ukrzaliznytsia has launched direct international trains to Bratislava, Budapest and Vienna. This became possible thanks to the construction of European standard railway track between Chop and Uzhhorod — for the first time since Ukraine's independence.
The new routes allow passengers to reach the capitals of Slovakia, Hungary and Austria without transfers, and also conveniently connect them with domestic routes.
Train schedule
Uzhhorod — Bratislava (No. 961/618): Departure from Uzhhorod — at 08:09, arrival in Bratislava — at 18:33. The return train Bratislava — Uzhhorod (No. 617/964) departs at 11:27, arriving in Uzhhorod at 22:35.
Uzhhorod — Budapest — Vienna (No. 146): Departure from Uzhhorod — at 08:09, arrival in Budapest — at 14:20, in Vienna — at 17:20. The return train Vienna — Budapest — Uzhhorod (No. 143) departs from Vienna at 10:42, arriving in Budapest at 13:19 and in Uzhhorod at 22:35.
Tickets and transfers
Tickets can be purchased through the Ukrzaliznytsia application and website, as well as on the websites of Hungarian and Slovak railways. With the new schedule in December, convenient connections with domestic trains, including night ones, are provided.
Thanks to this, the travel format becomes possible: departing in the evening from Kyiv, arriving in the morning in Uzhhorod, and then direct travel by European train without transfers.
New route Zahon — Berehove — Borzhava
In addition, a new train No. 644/647 runs on the route Zahon (Hungary) — Berehove (Ukraine) — Borzhava (Ukraine). It travels on the European gauge of 1435 mm and directly connects Berehove with Zahon — an important transfer hub in Hungary.
From Zahon, passengers can quickly reach other cities in the country, including Budapest, thanks to an extensive railway connection.
Tickets are available in the application and on the Ukrzaliznytsia website, as well as on the website of the Hungarian railway. Travel time is 2.26 hours. Ticket prices start from 424 UAH.
Cancellation of the Kovel — Rakhiv train
Ukrzaliznytsia has ceased operations of the train on the Kovel — Rakhiv route. This route was popular among passengers as it allowed residents of Volyn to reach the mountain resorts of the Carpathians without transfers.
The cancellation of the flight was announced by the railway workers at the beginning of November, stating that this decision was related to changes in the schedule due to deteriorating security situation in Ukraine. In Ukrzaliznytsia, it was explained that non-transfer carriages on the Kovel — Rakhiv route operated within several other trains:
Kovel — Uzhhorod;
Kyiv — Rakhiv;
Sumy/Chernihiv — Ivano-Frankivsk — Rakhiv.
Changes in the routes of certain trains due to security restrictions led to the cancellation of the Kyiv — Vorokhta train from November 2.
Also, non-transfer cars Kovel — Vorokhta and Vorokhta — Chernihiv have also ceased operations.
Trains to Donetsk region do not run
Due to the security situation, railway communication with the Donetsk region is currently completely suspended. In Ukrzaliznytsia, it was noted that passengers can only reach the border with the Kharkiv region — to the stations of Husarivka or Barvinkove.
Further movement towards the Donetsk region is possible only by road transport.
Passenger trains are currently not departing from the railway station in Kramatorsk. This concerns both long-distance trains from Kyiv, Odesa, Kherson, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk, as well as suburban electric trains.
Thus, the introduction of new railway routes opens up more opportunities for Ukrainians to travel through Europe, but at the same time, the cancellation of flights due to security restrictions highlights the problems faced by railway transport in Ukraine. The possibility of convenient connections with European cities is important for tourism development and strengthening international ties.
