Support System for Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine maintains a comprehensive support system for its Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), which includes financial assistance and housing aid. In March 2026, the government plans to disburse state payments and rental compensation, aiming to alleviate the socio-economic challenges faced by those displaced by the ongoing conflict.

New Financial Assistance for IDPs

Starting in March 2026, Ukraine will introduce new monthly payments for IDPs. Under the new provisions, eligible individuals will receive the following amounts:

  • 3,000 hryvnias for each child,
  • 3,000 hryvnias for a person with a disability,
  • 2,000 hryvnias for adult IDPs.

This aid will be provided for an initial period of six months. After this term, support may be extended to specific categories of citizens, including pensioners, people with disabilities, orphans, and other families whose per-person income does not exceed 9,444 hryvnias.

Furthermore, IDPs whose homes were destroyed or remain under occupation may be eligible for rental compensation. Public and charitable organizations have also been granted the right to lease state and municipal property to house displaced families. This initiative seeks to provide shelter for those who lost their homes due to the war, a critical issue as millions remain displaced.

Danilo Hetmantsev, Head of the Financial Committee of Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada, announced a potential program to construct 1 million apartments, which could become a significant step in addressing the housing crisis for internally displaced persons.

Thus, Ukraine's comprehensive IDP support system continues to evolve to meet new societal challenges and needs.

The introduction of these new payments and compensations demonstrates the Ukrainian government's ongoing efforts to support its conflict-affected population. The success of the proposed large-scale housing construction program, while promising, will depend heavily on securing substantial resources and international support for its implementation.
