Ramstein Talks Yield New Defense Initiatives for Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: During a Ramstein format meeting on February 11, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that partners are preparing new contributions to bolster the nation's defense. The discussions centered on critical issues, including fresh commitments to the PURL program, which will encompass:
- procurement of vital air defense systems;
- funding for Ukrainian drones and missiles;
- joint development of new defense projects.
Attendees included Andrius Kubilius, the EU Commissioner for Defense and Space, and Kaja Kallas, the EU's High Representative. A key achievement highlighted was the development of a prototype laser weapon system named Sunray. In a significant move to strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities, Germany also announced it would supply new IRIS-T air defense systems. The Ramstein meetings are a key forum for coordinating international military aid to Ukraine.
