The Rise of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Industry

According to UATV: During the ongoing war, Ukraine has emerged as a global frontrunner in the production of unmanned systems, enabling a wide range of missions—including strikes against Russian military targets. For instance, the company Fire Point manufactures long-range FP-1 and FP-2 drones capable of covering distances up to 1,600 kilometers. When operating close to the front line, their flight range extends to roughly 300 kilometers. Currently, the facility produces around 200 of these units each day, and overall output of the FP-1 and FP-2 models has doubled since 2025, reaching 6,000 drones per month.

Notable Ukrainian drone systems in development include:

  • Liutyi
  • Palianytsia
  • Peklo
  • Bobr

According to experts, certain Ukrainian designs can strike targets as far as 3,500 kilometers away. This achievement highlights the remarkable progress of the nation's drone industry, which now involves at least 500 companies. Further evidence of success comes from data showing that interceptor drones have destroyed 4,500 aerial targets over the past six months.

Investments and the Future of Drones in Ukraine

In 2025, production of ground-based robotic systems is set to quadruple. By 2026, Ukraine plans to manufacture 50,000 ground robots for the front lines. The government has signed contracts with manufacturers worth 11 billion hryvnias, reflecting substantial investment in this sector.

'Ukraine is currently the world's largest producer of attack FPV drones,' says Valerii Yakovenko.

The urgent need for advanced technology and effective warfare tools has been underscored by statements from officials. Mykhailo Fedorov remarked: 'We want to kill enemies. They can be killed with effective means.' Iryna Terekh noted that 'the FP-9 will allow us to bring the war to Moscow.' Robert Brovdy emphasized: 'That figure is 882 dollars. I believe that is a very good exchange rate—plastic and metal for the life of an occupier.'

In short, Ukraine's unmanned systems industry is advancing at an impressive pace and has become a critical factor in modern warfare. Amid active military confrontation, innovations in drone technology can significantly influence the effectiveness of combat operations and the country's defense strategy. Continued investment in this field reflects a clear understanding that technological progress is essential for national security.
