Dozens of language violations recorded in Odesa region: where the law is most often ignored.
In the first half of 2025, dozens of violations of the language law were detected in the Odesa region. The main issue is the inaccessibility of the Ukrainian language in services and on signs. This was reported by the secretariat of the Commissioner for the protection of the state language.
Statistics of violations
According to published data, the secretariat conducted 656 inspections throughout Ukraine, of which 549 were new, and 107 were ongoing from the previous year. The most violations were found in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and, as always, in the Odesa regions.
Typical violations in the Odesa region
In Odesa region, special attention is paid to websites, cafes, shops, and institutions that do not comply with the language law standards. According to statistics, 36% of violations are related to the absence of a Ukrainian version of online interfaces, 26% - to the use of another language by the staff, and another 22% - to violations in inscriptions, announcements, and signs.
As a result, 388 violations were identified, and 136 official warnings were issued. The language ombudsman also initiated 35 inspections. In total, over the half year, Ukrainians submitted 1,410 complaints, which is 348 more than the previous year.
