Weather conditions may complicate the operations of energy, construction, and utility companies and disrupt transport
Consequences of heavy rains in Odessa
On September 30, powerful rains hit Odessa due to a local cyclone operating over the Black Sea. A total of 94 mm of precipitation was recorded in one day, which is 224% of the monthly norm. This led to the declaration of three levels of danger — from yellow to red. Forecasters explain that cyclones over the sea remained stationary, preventing the anticyclone from shifting them, creating sharp atmospheric fronts and local downpours.
After the heavy rains and flooding in Odessa and its surroundings, the SES rescuers worked for almost a day to eliminate the consequences of the bad weather. The number of fatalities has risen to nine, including one child. Search operations continued throughout the night, and the search for a missing girl began, whose body was found in the morning.
Severe weather phenomena in the Odessa region have repeatedly caused serious malfunctions, including human casualties and infrastructure destruction. Therefore, caution should be exercised and preparations made for possible new weather challenges.
Due to frequent weather changes and the impact of climatic phenomena, residents of the Odessa region should be prepared for similar situations in the future. It is important to follow the recommendations of forecasters and relevant services to avoid dangerous consequences.Read also
