Road Conditions in Odesa

According to Novyny.live: Odesa residents are voicing growing frustration over the deteriorating state of the city's roads, particularly following a harsh winter. The freeze-thaw cycle has left streets riddled with potholes and cracks, creating hazards for both drivers and pedestrians. The number of road defects has surged, sparking widespread complaints among locals.

Motorists are reporting particularly poor conditions on the Odesa-Kyiv highway. Drivers face numerous obstacles, including deep potholes and uneven surfaces that make travel difficult.

“The roads are terrible, there are more potholes and bumps than before. It's the aftermath of winter. We had a cold season with heavy frosts,” says local resident Taisiia.

Repair crews have begun working on several streets within Odesa, but the situation on major highways remains dire. Resident Vladislav comments:

“To put it mildly, some sections are not great. I mostly get around on foot. But I can say that poor road conditions in certain areas are slowing down traffic.”

Aliona, who traveled by taxi, also highlighted the rough road surfaces: “I don't know, but today I was coming from Kotovsky settlement, and I was constantly jolted by the potholes. I was in a taxi, and it was just uncomfortable.” Another resident, Lyubov Mykolaivna, noted that “within Odesa itself, it's okay, but on the highway—the road condition is not very good.”

The asphalt on many stretches is crumbling due to weather exposure. “The asphalt has disappeared along with the snow; there are places like that. As always, after winter, the roads aren't great. I drive along Khadzhibey Road—it's in very poor condition,” emphasizes Tetiana.

Ultimately, the state of Odesa's roads remains a pressing issue, and residents are hoping for a swift resolution to the problem.

The poor road quality in Odesa is a critical social concern, as it directly impacts residents' quality of life and road safety. Local authorities need to prioritize urgent repair work to improve infrastructure and meet the needs of road users. With increasing vehicle traffic and the demand for smooth travel, addressing this issue is a top priority for the city.
