Power Supply Crisis in Odesa Region

According to Novyny.live: The Odesa region is facing a severe electricity crisis following a series of Russian attacks that have inflicted massive damage on its power infrastructure. Reports indicate that nearly half of the region's major electrical substations have been destroyed, including 34 substations operating at 110 kV, which accounts for approximately 45% of the region's total. As of now, not a single substation belonging to the national power company 'Ukrenergo' remains intact in the area.

Scale of Destruction and Immediate Impact

The scale of the damage is staggering. Out of 11 power transformers that should be operational, only four are currently functioning. This represents a catastrophic blow to the region's energy infrastructure, pushing the power supply situation to a critical state. The destruction of these key facilities has severely crippled the grid's capacity.

Commenting on the dire situation, Oleksii Kucherenko stated: 'The destruction of the main substations is colossal.'

He further added that 'the more the network is damaged, the less electricity it can transmit.'

Repairing Odesa's energy system is expected to be a lengthy process, potentially taking anywhere from several months to years, a timeline that has raised significant concern among residents and local authorities. The ongoing power shortages continue to disrupt daily life, hampering access to essential services and infrastructure. This situation demands urgent attention, as restoring the power grid is vital for the region's stability. The attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are part of a wider strategy that has plunged millions into darkness during winter months.

The long-term economic consequences for the Odesa region could be profound, as a stable energy supply is fundamental for industry and social services. The restoration effort will require not only substantial financial investment but also coordinated efforts from the state and international partners to ensure security and stability. In light of these events, it is crucial to support the affected population and provide necessary aid to address the urgent problems arising from this widespread destruction.
